Independence Woman Sentenced for Embezzlement

A 57-year old Independence woman was sentenced to 10 years in prison for embezzlement Tuesday in Buchanan County District Court.  In a release by the Buchanan County Attorney’s office, Maureen “Mo” Kimmerle was the treasurer, and later president of the Independence Mental Health Employees Union Local 2987, when she had taken over $72,000 from the organization and tried to alter the union’s records to avoid detection.  Kimmerle pleaded guilty to first degree fraudulent practice and first degree theft in December.  She must also pay restitution, and is to report to the Buchanan County Sheriff to begin serving her sentence on Friday.
