Metro & Area teams set to be well represented at 2022 State Wrestling Tournament

The field is set for the traditional State Wrestling Tournament following District competition Saturday.

Defending state champion Waverly-Shell Rock put together a record-setting performance at the 3A District meet held at Marshalltown as it qualified all 14 wrestlers to state. It’s the first time in state history that a school will be sending their entire team.

Also, following the action at Marshalltown, the 3A Metro schools will all be represented in Des Moines, as Waterloo East advanced three, and Cedar Falls and Waterloo West will both send one wrestler to state.

In a 2A District meet held at New Hampton, Union-LaPorte City had a solid showing and qualified six wrestlers.

And in area 1A District competition, Don Bosco dominated the meet held at Jesup, as the defending state champion Dons will be sending 13-qualifiers.

While at the meet held at Denver, Nashua-Plainfield is sending six to state and Waterloo Columbus qualified three.

The traditional State Wrestling Tournament will get underway Thursday at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines. Remember you can hear all the coverage of all the area wrestlers during all three-days of the tournament on 1650 The Fan.
