Don Bosco, seven area wrestlers win state championships

The State Wrestling Tournament finished up Saturday night in Des Moines.

Don Bosco crowned four state champions out of five finalists and rolled to their fourth consecutive 1A team championship. The Dons had the title clinched even before wrestling a single finals’ match.

Brothers Cade and Carson Tenold won their second consecutive championships winning titles at 170 and 195 pounds. Teammates Caleb Coffin at 106 and Jared Thiry at 220 each earned their first.

Class 1A saw several multiple-time state champions. Waterloo Columbus sophomore Max Magayna at 160, and Hudson’s 182-pounder Tate Entriken both captured their second state titles. Heavyweight Chet Buss of North Butler-Clarksville completed his third consecutive perfect season, winning by a fall in all four of his state matches.

In class 2A, Union freshman Jace Hedeman won the title at 106 pounds.

In class 3A, three-time defending team champion Waverly-Shell Rock finished third behind Southeast Polk and Waukee Northwest. The Go-Hawks crowned three state champions as Ryder Block at 138, 160-pounder Aidan Riggins, and McCrae Hagarty at 195 all won the second of their careers.
