Two area schools competed last night at the Girls State Basketball Tournament in Des Moines.
In a Class 4A Quarterfinal contest, 3rd seeded Bishop Heelan defeated 6th seeded Waverly-Shell Rock, 54-33.
The Crusaders broke open a close game with a big run at the start of the second half. Waverly-Shell Rock finishes their season with an 18-6 record.
And in a Class 2A Quarterfinal matchup, top-seeded Dike-New Hartford rolled past 8th seeded South Central Calhoun, 64-44.
The defending state champion Wolverines advance to the semifinals, where they’ll play Friday morning at 10 against Panorama.
