Waterloo Man Dies in Early Morning Shooting
Arrest Made in Shooting of LaVance Cooper

One person is dead, after an early Tuesday morning shooting at 627 W. 2nd St. in Waterloo. Waterloo police have identified the victim as 41-year-old LaVance Cooper, who was shot once in the abdomen. He was taken to Unity Point-Allen Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. Police have arrested and charged 58-year-old Dorray Cooper with first degree murder and felon in possession of a firearm. The shooting happened just after 4:00AM. This is the second deadly shooting in the city this year. The first happened January 8th at the Prime Mart at 508 Broadway Street. 18-year old Courtney Harris was shot several times and was pronounced dead at the scene. 19-year old Eugene Love Jr. was charged with intimidation with a dangerous weapon.
