Oelwein Man Arrested after Bremer County Standoff

An Oelwein man was arrested and charged after a standoff in Bremer County on Friday. The Bremer County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of an erratic driver east of Denver around 5:30AM. When deputies arrived, the driver was identified as 42-year-old Joshua Smith. Deputies then found Smith at a residence in the 2700 block of Navaho Avenue in Denver, where a nearly two-hour standoff took place. Eventually, “chemical agents” were used and Smith was taken into custody. He has been charged with second offense third degree burglary, interference with official acts, and driving while license was revoked.
