Cedar Falls Looks To Change Fireworks Ordinance

The city of Cedar Falls may be considering a regulation on fireworks usage that closely mirrors that of their neighbors to the east.  A joint meeting between Cedar Falls and Waterloo city council members took place Tuesday night, with Cedar Falls looking to lift a fireworks ban imposed in 2017, and adopting a similar three day window on fireworks usage between July 3rd and 5th.  Cedar Falls Mayor Rob Green.

Waterloo Mayor Quentin Hart says the joint meeting had been in the works for a while.

Hart says he’s very encouraged by the conservation between the two councils.

Green says the discussion comes after Governor Kim Reynolds signed new legislation last week that gives cities less options to regulate where fireworks can be sold.

Green anticipates the issue will first be taken up by the full council at the May 16th meeting.
