IHSAA makes considerable changes to postseason, state wrestling

The Iowa High School Athletic Association is making some big changes to postseason wrestling beginning next season.

Class 1A and 2A will no longer have sectional tournaments where the top two wrestlers qualify for Districts the following weekend. All three classes will now use District tournaments to determine individual qualifiers for the traditional State Tournament.

The traditional State Tournament will now have 24 qualifiers per weight in all three classes.

With the increase to 24 qualifiers per weight the traditional State Tournament will now be a four-day tournament going Wednesday through Saturday.

With the elimination of Sectional tournaments, that Saturday will now hold the State Dual championships. A location for the State Dual has yet to be determined.
