$16.50 Campaign supports Shared Blessings in March

Per Waterloo Black Hawks media relations & 1650-102.3 The Fan

Waterloo, Iowa – Since 2019, Shared Blessing has provided food and other necessities to area residents in need, and this month Slumberland Furniture, 1650-AM KCNZ, and the Black Hawks are highlighting the organization’s charitable efforts through the $16.50 Campaign during March.

Shared Blessing offers a food pantry open three days per week (Tuesday through Thursday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.), as well as community meals through their offices at 3622 Hammond Avenue.  Both services are available to anyone in need.  The organization also provides bags of food which students can take home from their local elementary schools, as well as school supplies for kids in need.  Shared Blessing works in coordination with several local businesses, as well as other non-profits like the Northeast Iowa Food Bank, Jesse Cosby Center, Americans for Independent Living and other organizations.  Shared Blessing estimates that they helped 3,000 families last year.

“This is a grassroots community organization which saw a need and stepped in to answer it,” said Hawks President and COO Joe Greene.  “Many people might be hearing about Shared Blessing for the first time; we hope that will inspire others to do what they can to help their neighbors here in the Cedar Valley.”

Shared Blessing has established a website at sharedblessing.com.  Anyone interested in partnering with the organization can connect through that platform.  Checks for $16.50 or any amount can be sent to the group’s office at 3622 Hammond Avenue, Waterloo, IA 50702.

The $16.50 Campaign’s goal is for 100 Black Hawks fans and 1650 “The Fan” listeners to make a modest contribution of $16.50 this month.  Like any crowd-sourced fundraising effort, success depends on many people each lending a hand and the principle that pooling many small donations can help in a big way. The cooperative effort between Slumberland, the Black Hawks, and 1650-AM KCNZ focuses on a different cause in the Cedar Valley each month during hockey season.
