Special Election Vote Results From Tuesday

Voters have voiced their approval on a number of issues in Black Hawk County on Tuesday night. Voters in Gilbertville overwhelmingly approved a $1.25 million bond to build a new emergency services building for the town. The vote was 87% yes, 13% no. Voters in Waterloo’s 4th Ward have selected Belinda Creighton-Smith over Lawrence Marshall. Creighton-Smith won 296-103 and will fill that council seat until December. Hawkeye Community College’s $35 million bond referendum to renovate and expand existing college facilities was approved by voters. With all 10 counties reporting in, 75% voted yes, 25% voted no. The measure needed a 60% majority to pass. The money will be used to add a STEM learning center and support career training programs for construction, HVAC, plumbing, electrical, automotive and diesel technology programs and build a new law enforcement training center. Black Hawk County voters approved the proposal, 86%-14%.
