Federal government shutdown means no crop report this week, but Iowa Ag Secretary expects progress to continue with good weather

DES MOINES — The federal government shutdown means there’s no weekly crop report for the state this week. Information from the Iowa Crop Progress and Condition Report, which is released weekly from April through November by the United States Department of Agriculture National Agricultural Statistics Service, is not available due to the shutdown.
Last week’s report showed 15% of the corn and 17% of the soybeans had been harvested.
Iowa Agriculture Secretary Mike Naig says the recent warm and dry weather has the harvest in full swing. He says showers early in the week this week may temporarily park some combines, but it is welcome to reduce the dust and fire risks.
Naig expects the harvest to continue moving along at a good pace with above-average temperatures expected to continue through the middle of this month.
