Vicki Chats with Alan Clausman, Author

My guest today might just be the most interesting man in Iowa — a retired security guard from John Deere, lifelong outdoorsman, devoted fisherman, and now, an author whose new memoir dives deep into the wild Canadian bush, the passage of time, and the people he met along the way.

Alan Clausman, born and raised in Waterloo, Iowa, spent most of his career in security at John Deere, keeping an eye out for the unexpected. But his real surveillance work? That came later — when he started looking back on the people, places, and adventures that shaped him.

Now living in Dike, Iowa, Alan writes with the same focus and quiet intensity that made him good at watching over others — only now, he’s watching over memory. In his memoir, he wonders:

What really happened out there? He doesn’t always find answers, but he does offer stories — the kind that stay with you. Whether he’s casting a line, asking big questions, or chasing down the ghosts of the past, Alan brings heart, humor, and hard-earned wisdom to every page.

Chris Berg

Chris was born in Webster City and raised in Charles City, which basically means he’s been corn‑fed and radio‑bred since day one. As a kid, he was always caught singing along to the radio — and while he’ll tell you he’s great at karaoke, let’s just say the audience’s ears often file a noise complaint. When he’s not busy butchering ‘80s power ballads, Chris enjoys starting overly ambitious home projects that rarely make it past the “great idea” stage. He lives in Charles City with his endlessly patient wife Vicki and their kids, Brynlee and Jaxon, who have already perfected the art of the eye‑roll every time Dad cracks another “dad joke.”
