Trump says deal reached with China on soybean purchases
AIR FORCE ONE — President Trump says China will start buying US soybeans once again.
While on board Air Force One after a meeting with China President Xi Jinping in South Korea earlier this morning, Trump told reporters that “tremendous amounts of soybeans and other farm products are going to be purchased immediately”.
The soybean deal is one of a number of agreements reached after their first in-person meeting since Trump returned to the White House in January. There were reports early yesterday morning that China had purchased three US soybean cargoes ahead of the meeting between Trump and Xi.
In 2024, China had made up 51% of US soybean exports, but trade tensions drove a wedge between the two countries, as China had stopped importing soybeans from the US and had started buying from Argentina, who had suspended export taxes for a brief time.
