Vicki Chats: Katie & the Honky Tonks – 2025 Iowa Music Awards, Country Artists of the Year

Ladies and gentlemen, get ready to meet one of Iowa’s brightest country acts—Katie & the Honky Tonks!

Leading the charge is the incredible Katie Sires, whose powerhouse vocals and acoustic guitar bring their songs to life. Holding down the rhythm and managing the band’s bookings and PR is Luke Sires on drums. On guitar and backing vocals is Jesse Cotton, who joined the band in March, and on bass and backing vocals is Johnny Love, who came aboard in May.

Together, this lineup delivers a honky-tonk sound that’s equal parts classic and fresh—perfect for any stage, festival, or road trip through the Midwest! Their debut album Ain’t No Shame has captured the attention of the Recording Academy and has been selected for consideration for Best Traditional Country Album at the 2025 Grammys.

Katie & the Honky Tonks recently took home Country Artists of the Year at the 2025 Iowa Music Awards—proof that their infectious energy and authentic country sound are winning hearts all across the Midwest.

Chris Berg

Chris was born in Webster City and raised in Charles City, which basically means he’s been corn‑fed and radio‑bred since day one. As a kid, he was always caught singing along to the radio — and while he’ll tell you he’s great at karaoke, let’s just say the audience’s ears often file a noise complaint. When he’s not busy butchering ‘80s power ballads, Chris enjoys starting overly ambitious home projects that rarely make it past the “great idea” stage. He lives in Charles City with his endlessly patient wife Vicki and their kids, Brynlee and Jaxon, who have already perfected the art of the eye‑roll every time Dad cracks another “dad joke.”
