Vicki Chats: Karmin Teague – Founder and CEO of Cedar Valley Thrift & Outreach Outlet – Answering the Call to Serve, One Family at a Time

Today we’re joined by a woman whose life proves that purpose doesn’t whisper—it calls you by name. Karmin Teague is the Founder and CEO of Cedar Valley Thrift & Outreach Outlet in Waterloo, Iowa, a place that has become a lifeline for families in crisis. She also serves with Waterloo Community Schools’ Transportation Department, where she shows up for students with love, consistency, and fierce advocacy.

Karmin didn’t choose this work—she lived it. Growing up in the same gaps many kids still fall through, she now stands in those spaces offering hope, stability, and dignity. With nothing but faith and courage, she drained her 401(k) to launch Cedar Valley Thrift & Outreach, later seeing strangers step in with small Kiva loans that proved community is stronger than circumstance.

At present, her outreach includes food programs, mentorship, “A Day With the Woo,” Special Olympics support, and countless acts of compassion—all ensuring no child is left out because of money. Ladies and Gentlemen, let’s offer a warm welcome to Karmin Teague.

Chris Berg

Chris was born in Webster City and raised in Charles City, which basically means he’s been corn‑fed and radio‑bred since day one. As a kid, he was always caught singing along to the radio — and while he’ll tell you he’s great at karaoke, let’s just say the audience’s ears often file a noise complaint. When he’s not busy butchering ‘80s power ballads, Chris enjoys starting overly ambitious home projects that rarely make it past the “great idea” stage. He lives in Charles City with his endlessly patient wife Vicki and their kids, Brynlee and Jaxon, who have already perfected the art of the eye‑roll every time Dad cracks another “dad joke.”
