Vicki Chats: Black Hawk County YMCA Executive Director – Norm Johnson
From the heart of Louisville to the deep, everyday heart of Waterloo, Norm Johnson has spent his life carrying one simple mission wherever he goes—helping communities grow stronger, healthier, and more connected.
Norm is the Executive Director of the Family YMCA of Black Hawk County, and if you’ve ever walked through the doors of the Y, you’ve felt the culture he leads—warm, welcoming, and grounded in genuine care for people.
Welcome to Community Pulse: The YMCA Series—your monthly boost of hope, purpose, and people-power.
Every third Tuesday at 2 p.m., Norm—along with other inspiring leaders from the Y—joins us to share stories of impact, celebrate the values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility, and highlight how the YMCA strengthens our community from the inside out.
With roots in Fort Dodge and years of leadership in the YMCA movement in Louisville, Norm brings both perspective and passion to everything he does—especially when it comes to youth, families, wellness, and belonging.
Whether we’re talking life-changing youth programs, small victories in personal health, or the quiet heroes who walk through the Y’s doors every day, this is your reminder that community is not only alive and well—it’s growing stronger right here in Black Hawk County.
