Vicki Chats: Kevin Thompson & Erin Neuendorf of Pillar of the Cedar Valley
Kevin Thompson
Today’s guest is proof that it is never too late to raise your hand and say, “Hey… what if?”
Kevin Thompson was born in Waterloo in 1954 and has lived a life full of hard work, creativity, and heart. He spent nearly three decades as a machinist at Viking Pump, built things as a carpenter, raised a family he’s proud of, and somewhere along the way learned to play drums, guitar, and piano—because why not master all the instruments?
Kevin now lives at Pillar of the Cedar Valley, where he also paints, sketches animals and landscapes, and—most importantly—writes original music. When I spoke to the residents recently, Kevin raised his hand and asked how he could get his music on the radio. I said, “You know what? Come perform it.”
And today… he’s here. Please welcome Kevin Thompson.
Erin Neuendorf
Joining Kevin today is someone who doesn’t just organize activities—she builds community.
Erin Neuendorf was born in Cedar Falls and has called Denver home for the past 22 years. She’s a mom to two incredible kids, Cale and Mira, a lover of books, thrift stores, decorating, family time, and a good stand-up comedy set. Honestly, solid life choices all around.
Erin is the Director of Activities at Pillar of the Cedar Valley, where she helps residents stay connected, creative, and seen. She was part of the moment that sparked today’s show—when Kevin asked a brave question and music found a bigger stage. Erin believes deeply in giving people opportunities to be heard, no matter their age or chapter of life.
We’re so glad she’s here today. Please welcome Erin Neuendorf.
