Today we’re joined by a woman of faith, fierce compassion, and fearless leadership — Pastor Vera Wallican.
A proud Waterloo native, devoted mother of four adult children, and joyful “Gammy” to five beautiful grandchildren, Pastor Vera has spent 34 years serving on the front lines of child protection with the Iowa Department of Health and Human Services. From Social Work Case Manager to Child Abuse Investigator to now Child Protection Policy Program Manager and Children’s Justice Act Grant Manager, her career reflects a lifelong commitment to protecting and uplifting families.
She answered her call to ministry in 2010, was ordained an Itinerant Elder in 2022, and now serves as Pastor of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church in Waterloo — a place where the love is real, the Word is alive, and the Spirit is free. She’s also a co-author of Sacred Sisters, with a new devotional, Discover Your Audacity to Live Free!, inspiring women to walk boldly in faith and freedom.
