Vicki Chats with the Proud Image Chorus: The At Last Quartet — Al, Denny, Jeff, and Steve

Ladies and Gentlemen, today on the show we’re celebrating harmony, friendship, and the unmistakable sound of live a cappella music. I’m thrilled to welcome four incredible vocalists representing one of the Cedar Valley’s most beloved musical organizations — the Proud Image Chorus.

Chartered back in 1979, the Proud Image Chorus is an all-male a cappella ensemble made up of singers from every walk of life — teachers, professionals, retirees, and community leaders — united by one shared passion: creating outstanding choral harmony while having an absolute blast doing it. Over the years, they’ve presented annual Spring Concerts, Benefit Christmas Concerts, and performed at events like Irish Fest, Sturgis Falls, Felix Grundy Festival, and Jesup Farmer Days. They also share their voices in area church services during the summer months and perform the National Anthem at events including UNI athletics, local high schools, the Iowa Wolves, and the North Iowa National Tractor Pull.

Four years ago, Proud Image joined forces with the River City Chorus from Mason City to present a shared Spring Concert, beginning a musical partnership that continues today. Since then, the two choruses — both directed by David Boyd — have collaborated on Spring and Christmas Benefit concerts in both Waterloo and Mason City, strengthening friendships and expanding the reach of barbershop harmony across North Iowa and the Cedar Valley.

Joining me today are four voices from within that talented group — the quartet At Last. Al Ferden sings lead, Denny Craun Sr. fills out the baritone, Jeff Morgan anchors the bass, and Steve Klawonn lifts the tenor. Together, they create that signature barbershop sound — ringing chords, musical storytelling, and moments that give audiences goosebumps.

They’re preparing now for their Spring Show performance on Saturday, April 11 at 3:00 p.m. at Kersenbrock Auditorium, West High School, 425 East Ridgeway Avenue in Waterloo. Audiences can expect laughter, powerful harmony, and a reminder of just how special live music can be.

Gentlemen, welcome to the show — I’m so glad you’re here today!
