Phone Scam Reported to Cedar Falls Police

Cedar Falls Police were notified Tuesday of a phone scam where the phone number showing on the caller ID was that of the Cedar Falls Public Safety Department.  The caller used the name of an officer and told the person receiving the call they were going to be charged for not appearing in court.  The caller also talked about paying bail or signing something for comparison.  Police warn citizens not to give out personal information over the phone or computer, and that officers do not contact someone over the phone about making payment arrangements and the like. Best defense is to call Cedar Falls Police or Black Hawk County dispatch and report the call.
