Cedar Falls Council Approves Pride Month Proclamation Request

Mayor Says He'll Sign, After Earlier Refusal

The Cedar Falls City Council Monday night approved the Human Rights Commission’s request to recognize June as Pride Month in Cedar Falls, and for Mayor Rob Green to sign the proclamation. Green had originally said he wouldn’t be signing it, due to his religious beliefs. Supporters of the proclamation spoke for nearly 2 hours, some asking Green to resign. At the end, saying he wanted “to learn more and to understand”, Mayor Green conceded that he would sign the Pride Month proclamation. On a voice vote, a majority of the council approved the proclamation request.
