Former Cedar Falls standout Owen Sawyer wins Waterloo Open amateur title

Recent Cedar Falls high school graduate Owen Sawyer claimed the Waterloo Open amateur title yesterday with a six-under, 202. Sawyer is set to begin his collegiate career next month at Iowa State.

In the professional competition, Pennsylvania native Evan Brown won on the second playoff hole to clinch the 90th Waterloo Open yesterday at Irv Warren. 

Brown, who was tied for fifth going into yesterday, shot a final round 63. Brown tied with Harry Hiller after regulation play with a three day total of 21-under, 195. Hiller had roared back after starting the day 13th by shooting a final round 62.

Brown’s win comes with a 50,000 dollar first-place purse.
