UNI Alum Pledges $25M; Largest Single Gift In UNI History

On the weekend of the University of Northern Iowa’s Homecoming, a UNI alum has pledged what’s now the largest single gift in the school’s history.  David Wilson, a native of Traer, and a 1970 graduate of UNI has pledged $25 million. That donation will  be a new beginning for the university’s college of business. Pending the approval of the Board of Regents next month, the university will honor the gift by the renaming of the college of business to the David W. Wilson College of Business. Wilson says he hopes this gift will inspire others.

Wilson says it’s very gratifying.

Wilson talked about how he became successful, having attended UNI.

Leslie Wilson, the dean of the College of Business, talks about what this gift means for the college.

UNI President Mark Nook says it’s a historic moment for the school.

With the pledge, Nook says the university’s “Our Tomorrow” campaign will be well on its way to reaching its $250 million goal sooner than anticipated.

Right now, the campaign is at $243 million.  A portion of the money will go toward establishing the Wilson Scholars Fund, which will provide renewable scholarships for students from Tama County.
