Waterloo Mayor Hart’s State of the City Address

Waterloo Mayor Quentin Hart delivered this year’s State of the City Address Thursday afternoon at the Waterloo Convention Center.  Two days after being elected for a fifth term in office, Mayor Hart talked about the many successes over the past year, and what’s ahead for the future of the city of Waterloo.  Mayor Hart talked about the many goals established for the city, including the city’s 2030 vision and plans for the expansion of the city’s housing market.

A part of the focus was on the new Waterloo Fiber system, underway now in several neighborhoods. Formal groundbreaking was in August, and completion is expected in 2026.

Hart says another goal worth pursuing is continuing to make Waterloo a city of opportunity.

Guests were later invited outside to the nearby plaza for the dedication of the Sullivan Brothers Memorial Plaza.  The memorial plaza pays tribute to the five Sullivan brothers, the Waterloo men who all lost their lives together in WWII, as well as their fellow crewmembers on the USS Juneau.
