Cedar Falls Fire Rescue Responds to Two Home Fires

Cedar Falls Fire Rescue crews were kept busy with a pair of home heating fires on Wednesday.  The first occurred just after 5:00PM at 1107 Orchard Drive. Residents there reported a fire on the exterior of the home they were trying to put out with their fire extinguisher.  The homeowner had been trying to use a heat source to melt ice on the home exterior.  The fire was out when firefighters arrived and they ensured there was no extension of the fire in the structure.   The next fire was at 1221 Catherine Street around 7:15PM. A fire had been reported in the basement of the home.  Residents were able to get out safely. Firefighters were able to put out the fire and stopped its spread. The cause of the fire was attributed to the home’s furnace system. There was smoke and water damage throughout the home.  No injuries were reported in either fire incident.
